This past summer I visited the special collections of the University of Washington Allen Library in Seattle to photograph the pages of Van Buskirk’s 1853 “Journal and Remark Book.” This volume had been taken from the library at one point and was therefore missing when the other journals were microfilmed. The lost text was eventually identified by a rare book dealer, who found the UW stamp inside and returned it. Because it was never microfilmed, it has been available to scholars only by physically visiting the Seattle library—an inconvenience that ends today.  The “Journal and Remark Book” is now available as a .pdf file on the front page of our site, under “scans” in the upper right corner. We will also, as requested, be sending .tif files of our images to the library for their own use.
